This artwork showcases Sholapith, a traditional handicraft made from the white, spongy pith of the Aeschynomene plant. Known as “herbal ivory” or “Indian cork,” it is carved and shaped by the Malakar community into intricate religious idols, decorative objects, and elaborate ceremonial headgear, reflecting Bengal’s rich artisanal heritage.
